I have a sketchbook. Okay I have 3 sketchbooks. The latest is a Moleskin watercolor notebook, gifted to me from Tim, on my request.
Trouble is, I don’t really know how to sketch. I get lost in the details, so that any art project turns into a mission. I want to be able to crank out the sketches, undeterred by a major time commitment.
So in that respect, this sketchblog is an inspiration.
But was it ever really here?

Chocolate Gelato

I hate labels, but “vegan” seems to work for the way I’ve been eating lately. And maybe I do have a soft spot for Boca Burgers and soy hot dogs (especially when cooked on an open fire), but the truth is, the best vegan foods are those that are supposed to be vegan in the first place: tomato sauce, dahl, spicy black beans, guacamole. I mean, you don’t see “vegan falafel” at your local kebab shop. Of course it’s vegan - it’s falafel!
So today I made some Chocolate Sorbet, courtesy of this recipe at Chocolate & Zucchini (of course it’s vegan - it’s sorbet!). This is the stuff that dark chocolate wet dreams are made of.
In case you’re wondering, you don’t need an ice cream maker to make ice cream (or sorbet/gelato) at home. The Telegraph explains what to do:
Pour [the ice cream mixture] into a shallow plastic box, cover and freeze for three hours or so. Turn the frozen mixture out on to a board and cut into chunks with a large knife. Whizz the chunks in a food processor to a smooth, thick cream, and freeze again. Repeat if necessary.

Tim and I went to Scotland. We walked up and down lots of hills, camped it up all over the country side, figured out how to fry onions with a camp stove, got lost in the clouds, took a trip on a funicular, drank some whiskey, and climbed to the highest point in the UK.
