a university where you can’t buy books!?

With Half Priced Books having fled to North Lamar, and Barnes & Noble on the drag having also jumped ship, can anyone tell me where one can buy a book that isn’t a textbook in the UT-Austin campus area?

am i crazy? or is this impossible? it seems rediculous that a major university doesn’t have a book shop within walking distance. and yet… i am hard pressed to think of one.

i will weep if the closest book store is Yuppy Paradise (i.e. Book People).

I’m with you there. I don’t know of any bookstores in downtown or UT campus area. Bookpeople is always whining about being on the verge of bankruptcy, but I think they have a powerful lobby that shuts down all book stores within a 10 mile radius.

you might check out the library (8th and San Antonio), but don’t get your hopes up.

i really should make better use of the public library. i even have a library card! but in this particular case, i want to re-read the Hitchhiker’s Guide and the library is all out (or so their online card catalogue tells me, and i wouldn’t be surprised given that the movie is coming out). yes, yes, i know i posted a link to the full text online but, well, it’s not quite the same…

i think you’re right about Bookpeople. Bankruptcy? puh-lease.
