when quitting time finally arrived at 6pm friday night, the look of relief was apparent on many of the summer reu students’ faces. i admit that i, too, shared in the glory. we had a long but reasonably productive week. the lecture series was clear and informative, and our first two days of coding was surprisingly fruitful. still, after working last weekend and all week, i was ready for a break.
first stop: dinner. we had mexican food at Agua Linda’s, which is apparently top-of-the-line in Athens, Georgia. Still, it doesn’t compare to the food one can get in Austin. The quesadillas were decent, but left me missing my weekend afternoon trips for the cheese enchiladas at Julio’s (how do they make their red sauce so damn good?!).
My dormmate finally rescued her N64 from storage, so my room was a bit of of madhouse last night. So Allison, Rommel and I escaped to Molly O’Shea’s “Irish Pub”, which was a little too clean and well polished to be called a pub. Maybe it just hasn’t been broken in yet. Then again, the bartenders didn’t seem to know how to pour Guiness, so perhaps not. Still, we had a pretty good time, but not as good as Holly who joined us at midnight on the onset of her 21st birthday.
The Globe is still my favorite bar in Athens to date.
Here are some pictures of the night’s festivities.
