the “royal we” of athens, georgia have seen 1.54 inches of rain so far this month. at least we’ve had relatively mild temperatures, mostly in the mid 70s. on this day in 1933 it was 102 F!!
the weather has resulted in an overabundance of indoor activity.

things picked up when a new REU student arrived. he had to pick up a few things, so i joined him on a trip to the sto’. i have now seen first-hand how wal-mart has taken over small town america: it seems to be THE place that athens people go for groceries and other household items. last monday i strolled downtown and wondered why i couldn’t find a small grocery or convenience store; now it’s obvious. and they call this progress. plenty of people complain about this enough, so i’ll spare you. instead, my wal-mart report card:

the night got pretty good when a trip to The Globe ensued. The Globe reminded me of a place I went to in London, so I guess that means it was a decent pub. they had a fairly limited selection draughts, but i managed to put back 52 oz. of pilsner urquell. i’d call that a good night.
i’m feelin’ pretty proud of myself at the moment; apparently i haven’t lost all of my resourcefulness from the dorm life i once lived some six years ago. so i bought a sandwich yesterday that had a huge amount of feta cheese on it. so i took some of it off and saved it! this enabled me to have a toasted feta and avocado sandwich this afternoon. what a delight!

buy a new digital camera (probably from Sony’s Cyber-shot series)
